Cass County Courthouse Timeline

Civil War

April 12, 1861-The United States Civil War begins after Confederate forces fire on Fort Sumter, in Charleston Habor, South Carolina. Men of all races, creeds, and walks of life in Cass County answer President Lincoln’s calls for volunteers to suppress the rebellion. Cass County men served in notable regiments such as, the 102nd United States Colored Troops and the 12th Michigan Volunteer Infantry.
